It’s estimated that up to 10 percent of patients at Western Health experience severe financial hardship and as many as 10,000 patients a year struggle to meet their most basic needs.
Things that many of us take for granted, like hot water, food on the table, regular income, or even a roof over our heads, can prove out of reach for some patients.
For patients leaving hospital who are in a financially vulnerable situation, the future can feel uncertain, and it’s hard to know where to turn to for help.
Your donation to The Greatest Need will provide practical support to our most vulnerable patients to help them regain their health and independence. These are one-time gifts to patients in greatest need to help them leave hospital and move forward with their lives.
We also want to break the cycle to poor health by tackling the growing prevalence of chronic illness in our community.
Many of our patients have complex healthcare needs as a result of chronic illness such as diabetes, kidney disease and heart disease.
Funding for our research programs is vital if we are to continue to address the burden of chronic disease in our community and improve health outcomes for our patients.
